For the love of Ash by Taylor Lavati

**I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review**

4/5 Stars

Synopsis per Goodreads:
Maggie Larken is a reformed party girl. After her parent’s death, she’s left to raise Asher, her nine-year-old brother.

Luke Wilson has done everything his parents have ever asked of him. A new teacher, Luke constantly questions where is life is headed.

When Luke and Maggie meet, neither is in the market for a relationship. But sometimes life has other plans. Both navigate new waters as they try to decide where their priorities should lie, while also seizing what they want.

In this heartbreakingly real tale of love, Maggie and Luke discover what being a family truly means.

*This book is a standalone and NOT part of a series. This book contains mature content

I enjoyed this book, the main character wasn't a simpering idiot, she was strong, she took care of her brother and adopted him as her own, despite her young age, and is doing everything in her power to raise him right.  She does a better job than most single moms out there.  I loved it.  I love a strong main character.  This book was easy to read, and was also well written, good world building and character building.  I loved the characters and world building, the cover was beautiful.

Luke was a strong male character as well, with family burdens on his shoulder too, though in this day in age the burdens he has to bear, are easy enough to resolve with a phone call, it was never fully explained to me why things didn't get reported.   I liked how he stepped up though, both for his family and for Maggie.

Some of the substories with other minor characters in there didn't really have a good resolution, which kinda irritated me, and the ending felt really rushed, but other than that, I do recommend the book.

Beyond Reach by Siobhan Davis (book 2 of The Calling)

**I was invited to read this book by author Siobhan Davis via Netgalley**

5/5 Stars

Synopsis per Goodreads:
Back on Earth, Ariana is caught in a dangerous crossfire between clandestine rebel organization Clementia and the power-hungry government. Refusing to divulge the location of the secret information entrusted to her by her late father, she desperately tries to bargain for her Mom, Lily, and Cal’s rescue. She’s fighting a losing battle, and the clock is ticking.

Presented with evidence of her fiancĂ© Cal’s apparent betrayal, she loyally defends him despite her concerns. With her emotions in turmoil, matters become even more complicated as she grows closer to her ex-boyfriend Zane.

When the stakes are raised, a succession of shocking revelations rocks her world, setting her on a path that will not only change her destiny but the fate of humanity.

Confronted by a memory so abhorrent comes a truth she would do anything to forget.

But some things just can’t be undone.

I was thrilled to be asked by the author to read and review, if anyone who reads this follows my blog actively, knows that I am a HUGE fan of The Calling (book 1).

This book picks up where book 1 left off.  Ariana is on Earth, without Cal and her family.  She's involved with a rebel group called Clementia, which to me seemed just as bad as being on Nova, she traded one slave government for another.

I really cant go into too much detail within the book, you'll just have to read it to find out for yourself, I would hate to give away spoilers, but there were lots of twists and turns and surprise reveals in this one.  Lots of action, mixed with inward turmoil of being with Zane, and being without Cal.  Conflicts with other characters and rebel members, and a cliffhanger ending of course!

Once again the author took me inside the book and made me feel what the characters felt, and the imagination behind the writing was simply amazing, there aren't enough praises I could give for the world and character building.  I was hooked from start to finish.  I loved this story, I can't wait for book 3 to come out!

Beyond Reach is the gripping second novel in the True Calling trilogy, continuing the story of Ariana Skyee in the weeks after she arrives back on Earth.

We are almost back at the entry-point when Zane darts suddenly behind a tree, tugging me along with him. My back is flush to his chest, as his arms tighten around me. “What the …” His hand clamps over my mouth.
Don’t speak out loud or move an inch. I’ve just spotted some mini-drones.”
“What the hell are mini-drones?”
“They’re government-deployed, low-level surveillance drones. I’d heard that the authorities were using them to identify Clementia sympathizers, but this is the first time I’ve seen them sniffing around here. This isn’t good. I’ll need to advise the War Council.”
My heart is pounding in my chest, my breathing labored, but I keep still and silent as instructed. Warm breath cascades over my neck, and my body tingles all over. Zane is pressed so snuggly behind me that I can easily detect all the hard, taut lines of his body, and I blush furiously. Resisting the urge to squirm, I spend an uncomfortable ten minutes locked in his embrace. His arms rest precariously close to the swell of my breasts, and I’m self-conscious as hell.
When he finally releases me, my entire body almost folds in on itself in relief. I look around at him, and his gaze is intense. My eyes narrow suspiciously, and he arches an eyebrow innocently. He may look angelic, but oh yeah, he knew what he was doing all right.
